Court Strikes Out Suit Seeking To Invalidate Abia PDP Adhoc Delegate Election

An Abia High Court sitting in Umuahia on Wednesday struck out a case filed by one Ebyson Kalu Ebei, asking it to restrain the PDP from using the list of its three-man delegates for the conduct of primary elections.

The case on Suit No. HUK/23/2022 Between Kalu Ebyson EBEI v RT. HON. Alwell Okere Asiforo & 2 Others (Barr. David Iro and PDP) had in the originating summons among others, asked the court to restrain Abia PDP chairman, Rt. Hon. Alwell Asiforo Okere, Barr. David Iro, the PDP from using the three-man delegates list for any election for the PDP until a valid one is conducted.

The case was however struck out on Wednesday due to the absence of the claimant and his counsel.

Hon. Elder Amah Abraham, the State Vice Chairman/ Acting State Publicity Secretary described the dismissal of the case as a “victory for PDP, Abia State and democracy because it has finally settled the matter concerning the Abia three-man delegates and the unnecessary cacophony that followed it.”

He stated further, “As we continue our final descent to the great battle of 2023, the Party reiterates its commitment to the values that define Abia, one of which is the strict adherence to due process as this judgement in favour of the PDP has clearly demonstrated.

“We call on Ndi Abia to continue to have confidence in the judiciary as the last hope of the common man as well as continue to support the PDP government of Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu which is bent on protecting the independence of the Judiciary as an arm of government to protect the rule of law at all times.
