The Federal High Court in Kaduna has adjourned ruling on the bail application of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to April 14.
Speaking after the court session, lead defence counsel, Oluwole Iyamu, expressed optimism over the outcome.
“I am Oluwole Iyamu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, leading the defence for Malam Nasir El-Rufai. The bail application has been argued, responses taken, and the court has fixed April 14 for ruling,” he said.
He added, “We are hopeful. Our arguments have been presented before a court of justice, and we await its decision.”
Iyamu also disclosed that the defence team is fully prepared for another case involving El-Rufai, scheduled for April 10 at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Earlier, the court had adjourned the bail hearing from Tuesday to Wednesday. Following proceedings, El-Rufai was taken back into custody by operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
In a related development, a Kaduna State High Court sitting in Kawo had earlier arraigned El-Rufai alongside Amadu Sule on charges bordering on abuse of office, fraud, intent to commit fraud, and conferring undue advantage.
The charges, filed by the ICPC, are separate from those before the Federal High Court. After the state court proceedings, El-Rufai was transferred to the Federal High Court within the same premises.
