Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, Special Counsel to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has raised alarm over Kanu’s deteriorating health condition while in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).
According to Ejimakor, during their visit yesterday, Kanu complained of shortness of breath, low blood pressure, and general malaise. A request was subsequently made for Kanu to see his doctor, but the DSS denied access to the medical professional today.
Ejimakor revealed that the DSS is aware of Kanu’s susceptibility to potassium deficiency, which affects heart function. This condition was diagnosed by DSS doctors three years ago, but they acknowledged lacking the expertise to treat it. The lawyer expressed concerns that this untreated condition may be responsible for Kanu’s current illness.
Furthermore, Ejimakor disclosed that the electronic heart monitor provided by the DSS has been recording low pressure levels for nine consecutive days without any medical intervention to check if Kanu’s blood potassium level is within a clinically acceptable range.

This development has sparked concerns about Kanu’s safety and well-being in DSS custody.
Ejimakor’s statement has called for urgent attention to Kanu’s medical needs, and the situation is being closely monitored by human rights groups and supporters of the IPOB leader.
