CP Janet Agbede Abia State Commissioner of Police, CP Janet Agbede has urged VIPs in the state and all those who make use of the SPY plate number to immediately comply with the directive of of IGP, Usman Alkali Baba which bans its use.
She said failure to comply will lead to arrest and possible prosecution for violation of lawful orders.
Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Geoffrey Ogbonna in a release on Friday made available to ABN TV, said irrespective of whether the plate numbers were lawfully issued or not, the new directive invalidates all existing SPY plate numbers.
He said, “The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc(+), NPM, fdc, has ordered a total ban on the use of SPY POLICE Vehicle Number Plates by vehicle owners Nation wide without exceptions irrespective of whether authorized or not, as all authorizations have been revoked indefinitely.
“In compliance with the IGP’s directive, the Commissioner of Police Abia State Command, CP Janet E. Agbede, psc has directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and all Tactical Commanders in the Command to ensure effective implementation of the directives.
“All users of the SPY POLICE Number plates should reverse to their Original registered number plates or have it confiscated.”
The CP therefore warned all enforcers of this order to exhibit professionalism and ensure that the rights and privileges of citizens are respected in line with the laws of the land and in accordance with international best practices.
The CP further urged other security agencies and members of the public to cooperate with the Police, stating that this the move is aimed at strengthening internal security.
