Commercial, Social Activities Not Affected By IPOB Members’ Protest In Aba — Police

Abia state police command has said the protest embarked upon by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB on Friday demanding the release of their leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu did not affect commercial and social activities.

The command in a statement by the PRO, Geoffrey Ogbonna was reacting to the alleged “shutting down” of Aba by the IPOB members.

While admitting that such a protest took place in Umuahia on Friday, the police spokesperson said nobody was restricted from moving around their businesses.

He said, “The Nigeria Police Force Abia State Command have been inundated with the news making rounds the Social Media that IPOB members shut down Aba in protest for Nnamdi Kanu’s release.

“Although there was such protest along old Port Harcourt road in Aba it did not escalate to other areas in the city of Aba and neither did it result in shutting down the commercial city nor prevent commercial /social activities therein as reported. The peaceful protesters dispersed on sighting the Security operatives.

“The public is hereby enjoined to disregard the publication and perceive same as a figment of the publisher’s imagination aimed at causing unrest and tension in the God’s Own State City of Aba and its environs.”

He further announced that Security operatives in the State are on top of the situation, urging the people not to panic.
