Coalition Of Opposition Federal Lawmakers Urge FG To Allow Emir Sanusi To Reign Peacefully

The G-60, a coalition of opposition federal lawmakers from different political parties, has called on the Federal Government to steer clear of the chieftaincy affairs of the Kano Emirate and allow the reinstated Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, to reign peacefully.

In a statement issued after a closed-door meeting, the lawmakers threw their weight behind the Kano State government’s decision to reinstate Emir Sanusi II, whose removal and banishment was described as an attack on the revered ancient traditional institution.

The G-60, comprising lawmakers from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), and Labour Party (LP), warned that any attempt by the Federal Government to destabilize Kano State would be seen as fanning the embers of fire and would not be tolerated.

The statement, signed by Hon. Obi Aguocha (LP) and Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere (PDP), emphasized that the chieftaincy affairs of the Kano Emirate fall under the purview of the Kano State government and not the Federal Government.

The lawmakers also expressed surprise at the alleged role of top federal security outfits in facilitating the return of Bayero to the palace, but welcomed the denial of the claim.

The G-60 urged all peace and justice-loving Nigerians to support the Kano State government’s decision to reinstate Emir Sanusi II and protect the traditional institution from being trampled upon by anyone or institution using federal machinery.
