Climate Change: Women For Gas And Green Initiative Applauds Rep. Onuigbo, Commences Emissions Reduction Efforts

The Nigerian Women for Gas and Green Initiative (NW4GGI) has lauded Honourable Sam Onuigbo for his efforts at ensuring that Nigeria has a regulatory framework for fighting Climate Change.

The initiative expressed this during a courtesy visit to the Honourable Member at his office at the National Assembly, on August 19, 2022.

The team which was led by Hajia Maryam Salihu Ibrahim, wife of Nigeria’s former Chief of Army Staff, General Salihu Ibrahim, noted that with the newly enacted Climate Change Act 2021, it now has unlimited leverage to mobilize the entirety of the women folk across the country to champion its programme under the auspices of the Nigerian Gas Expansion Programme (NGEP) and African Women Carbon Footprint Project (AWCFP).

They further hinted to Rep. Sam Onuigbo that the NW4GGI has begun its emissions-reducing AutoGas Conversion capacity training, which is poised to provide skilled employment, technology acquisition and technology transfer to women and youths who have so far shown interest in auto-mechanics.

Engr Joyce further hinted that the initiative has also begun training of some Nigeria Police Force technical personnel on AutoGas Conversion Technology.

Buttressing the rundown given by the Engineer, the team leader, Hajia Mariam Salihu Ibrahim told the seasoned lawmaker that her initiative has begun a sweeping revolution in the AutoGas sector, while noting that they will not only provide manpower and jobs to the teeming youths and women in the country, but also ensure that the fight against Climate Change in Africa can also be waged on the wheels of its eco-friendly AutoGas Conversion Technology.

Hajia Maryam further stated that her group is also poised to join hands with the lawmaker and his vast international platforms in making sure that the fight against Climate Change in Nigeria is irreversibly won through the mobilization of Nigerian and African women and youths, while it plans to soon launch a nationwide awareness campaign to bring more people onboard.

Reacting, Rep. Onuigbo thanked his visitors for their novel initiative and the rare recognition they gave him, whilst promising the support of his Office, colleagues in the National Assembly and also partners in the international arena in ensuring the success of the novel initiative in Nigeria and beyond.

Rep Onuigbo recalled that the Review Committee on Nigeria’s Climate Change Bill worked to ensure that the provisions of the Bill gave special attention to Nigerian women as they are the most vulnerable to climate change.

He promised to explore more opportunities in the coming days, and during the implementation of the new Climate Change Act in order to put women with such noteworthy initiatives on the front burner of Climate Change issues around the world.
