Chief Nkpa Kalu Ohuonu Passes On At 83, Family Announces Funeral Plans [See Poster]

The Ameke-Abiriba community in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State is mourning the passing of one of its respected elders, Chief Nkpa Kalu Ohuonu, who died at the age of 83.

In a statement signed by Hon. Tony Okoro Kalu on behalf of the family, Chief Ohuonu was described as a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and in-law whose life was marked by integrity, service, and commitment to the growth of his community.

Funeral Programme

According to the family, burial rites will begin on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at 3:00 PM when the body will leave SDA Hospital, Aba, for his residence at Ugweuzi Ameke, Abiriba.

A wake-keep will follow immediately at Egwuena Model Primary School Field, Ugweuzi Ameke, Abiriba, from dusk till dawn.

On Monday, December 29, 2025, an open-air funeral service will be held at Akahaba Central Stadium, Omaghuzo Ameke, Abiriba, beginning at 10:00 AM. The Presbyterian Church of Nigeria will officiate the service.

Interment will take place at his compound in Ugweuzi Ameke, Abiriba, immediately after the funeral service, followed by a reception of guests at the Akahaba Central Stadium.

The family has extended an open invitation to relatives, friends, and the general public to join them in celebrating the life and legacy of Chief Nkpa Kalu Ohuonu, a man they described as an “icon whose contributions to the growth of Ameke and Abiriba will never be forgotten.”
