Build With Integrity, Don’t Depend On Government — Atiku Advises Young Entrepreneurs

As young Nigerians increasingly turn to entrepreneurship amid economic uncertainties, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has issued a clarion call for integrity, self-reliance, and ethical conduct in business.

Speaking to the 2025 graduating class of the American University of Nigeria (AUN), Atiku urged new graduates not to wait for government patronage or shortcuts, but to build their businesses on strong moral foundations.

“Build with integrity. Keep your business independent. Don’t rely on government,” he said.

Atiku’s remarks strike a timely chord in a country where youth unemployment is on the rise and access to capital and mentorship for startups remains limited.

He emphasized that while challenges are inevitable, young entrepreneurs must avoid unnecessary confrontations and political entanglements that could derail their focus.

“Never compromise your values. Integrity is the strongest foundation you can build on,” Atiku said, pointing to his own ventures and decisions made under pressure during his time in politics.

The advice comes as part of a larger message encouraging Nigerian youths to be bold, creative, and ethical in whatever path they choose — a message delivered with the credibility of someone who has walked the talk.
