On Wednesday, President Muhammadu Buhari requested approval from the Senate for a loan of $800 million to fund the National Social Safety Network Program, or NSSP.
During the Wednesday plenary session, Ahmed Lawan read a letter to the Senate that contained Buhari’s request.
The President claims that the money will be distributed to 10.2 million low-income and poor households for a six-month period, with a projected multiplier effect of 60 million people.
Therefore, in order to ensure proper implementation, the President asked the lawmakers to take action quickly.
The conditional cash transfer window of the program provides N5,000 per month to each of the 10.2 million recipients.
