President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned those agitating for the separation of the country, insisting that Nigeria must remain one, united and indivisible under his stewardship.
He stressed this in a message at the launch of Kudirat Abiola’s Sabon Gari Peace Foundation held in Zaria.
The president said those agitating for succession and separation of the country are either ignorant of history or of the civil war.
Buhari who was represented by the executive secretary, Revenue Mobilization and Fiscal Allocation Commission (RMAFC) Alhaji Mohammed Bello Buhari, said people above the age of 60 would not contemplate going through what happened during the civil war and urged those who feel aggrieved to channel their grievances to the National Assembly.
He also emphasised on full implementation of judiciary and local government autonomy, saying state governors must adhere to the laws and desist from tampering with local government allocations.
The representative of Kaduna State governor, the commissioner for education, Alhaji Shehu Mohammed and representative of the Borno State governor, the commissioner for home affairs, information and culture, Alhaji Bakura Abba Jatau, disagreed on need for restructuring.
They said those clamouring for restructuring do not even understand what they are clamouring for.
“When we are in a democratic setting and have a National Assembly in place, who represents every region, every state and every constituency, the need for restructuring becomes inconsequential,” they said.
Earlier, the chairman of the foundation and son of late Kudirat Abiola, Alhaji Jami’u MKO Abiola, said the whole concept of the launch was to bring Nigerians together irrespective of tribe or religion and propel the gospel of unity, peace and continuous existence as an indivisible entity.
Jami’u Abiola said though his mother was Yoruba by tribe, she was born and bred in northern Nigeria in the midst of Hausas, before finally returning to Lagos, her state of origin.
“This indicates that wherever you come from, you can still live elsewhere and make a living within the shores of Nigeria.
“I want to assure you that this project will not end here, it will step down to the grassroots level for massive awareness,” he said.
