A large number of youths from Ameake community in Umuahia on Saturday invaded Mbaka estate where construction was going on and sacked all the workers after allegedly beating up policemen attached to the estate.
The policemen were deployed in response to a tip off of the attack by the youths who are alleging that the estate owner has encroached in their land without adequate compensation.
ABN TV gathered that on Friday, the youths numbering about six had attacked the same estate where the workers were said to have overpowered them and handed over one of them to Ubani police station for questioning.
They were said to have been infuriated by this, causing a large mobilization of their members for a reinforcement on the construction workers in the early hours of Saturday.
Our correspondent gathered that the angry youths engaged in the spree of damaging any vehicle they could sight in the construction premises and later escaped back to the community.
The police in response to this development dispatched more operatives to the troubled environment.
No arrest had been made as at the time of filing in this report.
It is alleged that the youth leader of the community identified simply as Obioma is likely behind this as village chiefs have absconded from the community for fear of being attacked after some youths were said to have vandalized their houses and burnt their cars.
In addition, it was gathered that the estate already entered and agreement with the community over the affected portion of land and have already paid for it.
But the youths are agitated that they were not carried along and hence are not aware of any dealings.
