Suspected cases of the coronavirus pandemic from Ebonyi, Abia, Enugu states whose samples have so far been tested at the new testing Laboratory in Ebonyi State have all tested negative.
The laboratory, which is situated at the Virology Centre built by Governor David Umahi at the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki was upgraded to a COVID-19 testing facility at the weekend by the Federal Government.
Ebonyi Commissioner for Health Dr. Umezuruike Daniel disclosed that already samples have been received from Abia and Enugu states.
He however noted that so far all the referrals have tested negative.
Dr. Umezuruike also disclosed that eight suspected cases from Ebonyi also tested negative.
On the establishment of the centre, the commissioner noted that already the state had a virology centre with all the equipment at the Alex Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki.
“So the federal government through the NCDC brought the test kits for us to be doing COVID-19.
“Previously we used to do Laser Fever and you know all of them are viral diseases with different reagents (test kits) and that is what they did; to activate our own to do COVID-19.
“Enugu and Abia have brought samples but none has tested positive so far. Some not yet completed but in the end the states are expected to announce the results.”
Abia and Ebonyi states are yet to record a case while Enugu remains in two cases.
