Nigerian rapper Emeka Akumefule, better known as Blaqbonez, has sparked controversy by claiming he is 50 times bigger than Grammy-nominated artist Asake.
The debate was reignited after a 2019 tweet from Asake resurfaced, in which the rising artist had requested a follow-back from Blaqbonez when he was still an up-and-coming rapper.
The discussion gained momentum when a user on X (formerly Twitter), @thejacobsss, suggested that ranking Asake above Blaqbonez was “hilarious.” The fan wrote, “Asake is big, but saying he’s bigger than Blaqbonez is pure comedy walai.”
Blaqbonez agreed with the comment, replying, “Like people are funny. I’m 50x bigger. I sold out the O2 Arena in 1 minute; it took him longer.”
However, fans and fact-checkers quickly pointed out discrepancies in Blaqbonez’s statement. While Blaqbonez claimed to have sold out the O2 Arena, records show that he has never headlined or sold out the iconic venue. In contrast, Asake has sold out the O2 Arena twice, a significant achievement in the music industry.
