Vision Africa Radio 104.1 FM marked its 20th anniversary in a grand celebration held during the 2024 edition of the ICONS Reality Show.
The event, which coincided with Vision Africa’s 27th anniversary as an organization, brought together dignitaries, traditional rulers, clergy, students, and well-wishers to honor the institution’s legacy and impact.
Bishop Sunday Onuoha, the Founder of Vision Africa, delivered an inspiring address, recounting the journey that began in 1997 with the conceptualization of Vision Africa as a grassroots initiative to foster community development and social impact. He recalled how his doctoral thesis in Dallas, Texas, provided the blueprint for the organization, leading to the establishment of Vision Africa Radio in 2004 with support from former President Olusegun Obasanjo and then-Governor Orji Uzor Kalu.
“We set up this station with the aim of promoting spiritual, emotional, and physical well-being while bridging societal divides,” Bishop Onuoha stated. “Despite initial skepticism about situating such a project in the Southeast, Vision Africa Radio has become a trailblazer in broadcasting and community engagement.”

Celebrating Two Decades of Impact
Vision Africa Radio, renowned for its groundbreaking programs and advocacy, has been a beacon of hope, love, and unity, catering to diverse audiences within and beyond Nigeria. Over the years, it has championed initiatives such as:
- Educational Outreach: Supporting students, including those in correctional facilities, to achieve academic milestones like WAEC and university degrees.
- Interfaith Programs: Promoting peace and reconciliation among religious groups.
- Community Projects: Hosting high school debates, orphanage programs, and mobile radio services in collaboration with international partners.
- Empowerment Drives: Equipping journalists and fostering grassroots advocacy through its nonprofit arm, Vision Africa Life Advancement.
Bishop Onuoha also recognized the contributions of early pioneers, staff, and volunteers who have sustained the organization’s vision. He paid tribute to figures like Dr. Sunday Kofi Mbam, Air Commodore Emeka Omeruah, and the late Agnes Onoha, whose dedication shaped the institution’s foundation.
A Call to Action
In his speech, Bishop Onuoha emphasized the need for collective responsibility in nurturing young minds in an era dominated by technology and artificial intelligence. “It is our duty to engage constructively with the younger generation, instilling values and providing platforms for their voices to be heard,” he urged. “Ignoring their potential could lead to dire consequences for our society.”
He also hinted at future plans, including the establishment of Vision Africa Television, to further expand the reach of the organization’s mission.
Acknowledgments and Closing
The event was graced by dignitaries including archbishops, lawmakers, traditional rulers, and students from various high schools who participated in Vision Africa’s annual debate program. Bishop Onuoha extended his gratitude to international board members, partners, and the listening audience who have supported the organization over the years.
As Vision Africa Radio steps into its third decade, Bishop Onuoha reiterated the commitment to fostering unity, love, and positive change. “We will continue to increase our efforts to create and share God’s unfailing love, working towards peace and community development,” he concluded.
The celebration ended with a cake-cutting ceremony, performances, and a renewed pledge to uphold the values that have defined Vision Africa for 27 years.
