Billboard Awards: Tyla Triumphs Over Burna Boy, Asake, Others, Claims Best Afrobeats Song, Artist

The 2024 Billboard Music Awards saw South African singer Tyla defeat Nigerian heavyweights Burna Boy, Rema, Tems, and Asake to win the title of Top Afrobeats Artist.

The awards ceremony, broadcast on Thursday night, saw Tyla make history with double wins. She also claimed the Top Afrobeats Song title for her global hit, Water.

Tyla, born in Johannesburg, was nominated in eight categories at this year’s BBMAs. These included Top R&B Artist, Top R&B Female Artist, Top R&B Album (Truth or Dare), and Top R&B Song (Water). She also secured nods for Top Afrobeats Song with tracks like Truth or Dare and Jump, a collaboration with Gunna and Skillibeng.
