Bill Seeking Conversion Of Abia State College Of Education To University of Technology & Education Passes First Reading

Abia State House of Assembly on Tuesday passed to First Reading a Bill seeking to convert Abia State College of Education Techincal, Arochukwu, to Abia State University of Technology and Education, Arochukwu (ABUTEA).

At the Tuesday plenary, the Bill sponsored by Mike Onyekwere Ukoha, Member representing Arochukwu State Constituency after going through legislative processes and in a motion moved by the Majority Leader, Hon Solomon Akpulonu, seconded by Hon Stanley Nwabuisi, Member representing Ikwuano State Constituency, the Bill, H.A.B. 58 passed First Reading.

Also at the plenary, a Bill seeking the conversion of Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, to University of Aba sponsored by the Majority Leader, Hon Solomon Akpulonu, was deferred to be considered on another Legislative Day.

Similarly, a Bill for a Law to Establish the Abia State University of Medical and Health Management Technology sponsored by Hon Barr A.C. Thomas Nkoro, Member representing Obingwa West State Constituency passed second reading.

The sponsor of the Bill, Hon Nkoro led the debate and after contributions from other House members, the Speaker committed the Bill to the Committee of the Whole for future legislative action.
