Abia state House of Assembly has passed into first reading bill seeking conversion of the state Polytechnic situated in Aba to University of Aba.
The Bill was introduced on Monday during plenary by the sponsor and Majority Leader, Hon Solomon Akpulonu through a motion seconded by Hon Aaron Uzodike, representing Aba North.
The Bill is known as “The University of Aba Bill, 2022“.
The need for additional universities was among the major decisions taken at the State Executive Council meeting presided by the state Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu last year before he reconstituted his cabinet.
The council proposed that Abia State Polytechnic Aba be transformed to Abia State University of Science and Technology, Aba while Abia State College of Education Arochukwu would be converted to Abia State University of Education, Arochukwu.
Similarly, the council proposed that the Abia State College of Health Sciences and Management Studies will become Abia State University of Science and Management Studies, Aba.
