Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has directed that traders who may wish to stay at home with their shops locked in honour of their loved ones who were killed during the unfortunate civil war should not be penalized as earlier directed in his State Broadcast.

A statement by his media aide, Deacon Francis Nwaze explained that Governor Umahi issued the counter directive following requests by families that they are allowed to stay indoors organize prayers in honour of their loved ones.

Governor Umahi observed that it was the constitutional right of people to stay at home while the rights of those who wish to go about their normal businesses should not be infringed upon.

He noted that while granting the permission, the state government remained resolute towards protecting the lives and property of the people and directed security agencies to do everything possible to maintain law and order while the ban on procession and gathering remain to enforce.
