Governor Daida Lawal of Zamfara State participated in the first Northwest Security Summit organized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in collaboration with the Katsina State government.
The summit took place at the banquet hall in Katsina State, alongside other Northwest governors.
The governor emphasized Zamfara State’s longstanding struggle with insecurity and drug abuse, which has significantly impacted the safety and well-being of the people and hindered socio-economic development for over two decades.
“I believe that the outcomes of this summit will be crucial in shaping our future policy decisions and strategies to address these challenges,” he remarked.
“I express my gratitude to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, who was represented by the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, for his continuous efforts and unwavering support in countering banditry and other crimes in the Northwest region and Nigeria as a whole.”
“I also want to sincerely thank our partners from UNDP Nigeria for their invaluable support and commitment. Their expertise and experience are indispensable as we strive to find lasting solutions to our challenges.”
“I congratulate my brother and friend, the Executive Governor of Katsina State and the Northwest Governors Forum chairman, Mallam Umar Dikko Radda, for his dedication to uniting the region against banditry.”
DAILY POST reports that the event was attended by former President Muhammadu Buhari, members of the Federal Executive Council, legislators from the region, the National Security Adviser (NSA), the Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), the country’s Security Chiefs, heads of traditional institutions of the region, members of the diplomatic corps, UNDP officials, captains of industries, and other critical stakeholders.
