Avoid Vices, FCT Minister Tells 3,826 Corps Members

The FCT Minister of State, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, has advised corps members deployed to the FCT for the one-year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme to shun vices such as cultism and drug abuse.

She gave the advice during the swearing in of the 2023 Batch C Stream 2 members held at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Abuja on Tuesday.

The minister, who was represented by the Mandate Secretary for Social Development, Ibrahim Aminu, said the FCT Administration (FCTA) was determined to provide corps members with maximum support as active partners in the development of the FCT.

She urged the corps members to be security conscious at all times, while assuring them that security of life and property was a top priority of the FCTA.

The oath of allegiance was administered by the Chief Judge CJ of the FCT, Justice Husseini Baba Yusuf, represented by Justice Oluyemisi Ikeoluwa.

Also speaking, the FCT NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Winifred Shokpeka, advised the corps members to comport themselves in manners worthy of commendation, noting that any form of negative behaviour such as drug abuse and cybercrime would not be tolerated on camp and throughout the service year.

The coordinator disclosed that 3,826 corps members were duly registered for the orientation course in the FCT, comprising 1,528 males and 2,298 females.
