Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar may be on the verge of achieving his lifetime dream of being the country’s President as he trounces Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, Former President of the Senate Bukola Saraki and Sam Ohuabunwa to clinch the APC presidential ticket, ABN TV reports.
At the presidential primary election which took place at MKO Abiola stadium in Abuja, Atiku who was the candidate of PDP in 2019 polled 371 votes to defeat his closest rival, Nyesom Wike who clinched 237 votes.
He was declared winner by the chairman of the election committee and former President of the President, David Mark after collation and counting for Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri.
Recall that Sokoto governor, Aminu Tambuwal shortly before the commencement of the election announced his decision to step down from the contest, urging his supporters to vote for Atiku.
Atiku is expected to slug it out with whoever emerges the presidential candidate of the APC after its convention expected to commence on 6th June, 2022.
