Atiku Officially Resigns From PDP

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, has officially resigned his membership from the opposition party.

His resignation comes amid preparations for the 2027 general election and follows his admission of involvement in forming a new coalition party, the Alliance Democratic Congress.

The resignation was made public through a letter dated Monday, July 14, 2025, addressed to the chairman of the PDP in Jada 1 Ward, Jada Local Government Area of Adamawa State. A copy of the letter was shared on X by Atiku’s Special Assistant on Media on Wednesday.

In the letter, Atiku stated, “I am writing to formally resign my membership from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect.

I would like to express my profound gratitude for the opportunities the party has given me. Serving two full terms as vice president and contesting twice as the party’s presidential candidate has been a significant part of my life.

As a founding father of this esteemed party, this decision is heartbreaking. However, I find it necessary to part ways due to the party’s current trajectory, which I believe no longer aligns with the foundational principles we stood for.

With a heavy heart, I resign, recognizing the irreconcilable differences that have emerged. I wish the party and its leadership all the best in the future. Thank you again for the support and opportunities.”
