Liverpool manager Arne Slot has described winning the Premier League title at Anfield as “one of the best days” of his life, as he shifts focus to finishing the season strongly and preparing for the next campaign.
The Reds secured their record-breaking 20th English league crown in emphatic style last weekend, thrashing Tottenham Hotspur 5-1 at home to wrap up the title with four games to spare. The atmosphere at Anfield was electric, and Slot, who is in his first season at the helm, was quick to highlight its emotional significance.
“Maybe for all the Liverpool fans, but for many of them, one of the best days of their lives, and I think it was the same for me,” said the Dutchman during his pre-match press conference on Friday.
“The way the whole day went — arriving at the stadium, how intense the fans already were, then going 1-0 down, it even felt like, ‘Oh, they’re not going to give it to us, we have to work for it’. Scoring the goals and seeing how much it meant to the players and the fans was really special to be part of.”
With matches remaining against Chelsea, Arsenal, Brighton, and Crystal Palace, Slot sees the rest of the season as both a challenge and a springboard for next year.
“It’s the end of the season, but we also have to look at this as the start of next season already,” he noted. “It’s nice that we play some very strong teams — Chelsea, Arsenal, Brighton and Palace — so that gives immediate challenge to those games.”
Slot praised his side’s consistency, reflecting on Liverpool’s 22-point lead over fifth-placed Chelsea. He recalled their October clash, which Liverpool narrowly won 2-1, admitting Chelsea were the better side that day.
“To be so many points ahead of them is a big compliment for everyone here at this club,” Slot said.
Looking ahead, the former Feyenoord manager revealed plans to rotate the squad in the final weeks, offering chances to players who have impressed in training but had limited minutes.
“They are good enough to play for this club, and I think this is also a moment to see where they are,” he explained.
The title triumph is also expected to aid Liverpool’s recruitment efforts in the summer transfer window.
“Winning the league, having these fans — I think this is a big attraction to every player we want to bring in, and that’s definitely helpful,” said Slot.
While captain Virgil van Dijk and top scorer Mohamed Salah have recently signed new deals, the future of vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold remains uncertain, amid ongoing links with Real Madrid. Slot declined to provide an update, stating only that there was “nothing new” at the moment.
Liverpool face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday in what promises to be a high-stakes clash, especially for the hosts who are battling for a Champions League spot.
