Army Nabs Suspected Vandals In Okon Palm Oil Plantation (Photos, Video)

Men of the Nigerian Army have arrested three suspects in connection with the vandalization of vital equipment at a palm oil plantation located in Okon Aku Ohafia in Abia State, ABN TV reports.

The Eastern Region Estate Investment (EREI) was a palm oil plantation established by Dr. Michael Okpara, the then Premier of Eastern Region in 1961.

The plantation which has since gone obsolete has consistently come under series of attacks by vandals.

They had stormed the premises with a van to cart away with their looted items. It was in the process of leaving that they were nabbed by soldiers on routine patrol.

ABN TV gathered that the Abia State government had previously issued a letter, warning the vandals to stay off the property as plans were ongoing to rehabilitate it.

Their arrest follows a tip-off by some hunters who reported to security agencies on the activities of the vandals.

ABN TV learnt that the suspects have been handed over to Zone 9 Police Abia State and they are currently in detention while investigations are ongoing.
