Army: Fight Against Boko Haram, Militancy, Others Big Sacrifice For Nigeria — Sen. Kalu

Senator representing Abia North, Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu has commended men and officers of the Nigerian Army for working tirelessly to keep Nigeria united, saying the fight against any group working against Nigeria, including Boko Haram terrorist group, proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and militancy in Niger Delta is a big sacrifice.

The former Abia governor made this remark on Tuesday in Ohafia Abia state when he paid a courtesy visit to 14 Brigade of Nigerian Army, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Barracks.

According to Kalu, it is difficult to see men who are ready to put their lives on the line in the defence of their country’s territorial integrity, calling for support for the soldiers.

He also thanked the officers for the pride they take in wearing the Army uniform which is the symbol of the country’s strength.

ABN TV gathered that the federal lawmaker was in the barracks to identify with widows of soldiers who died in the line of duty as well as members of the Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA).

Sen. Kalu who made donations of 10 motorcycles and 10 sewing machines for the widows also donated relief materials and made a cash donation to the groups.

While expressing satisfaction with the level of infrastructure in the Brigade, including pipe-borne water, he thanked the Commander for embarking on such projects.

The former governor thanked members of NAOWA for allowing their husband to be part of efforts to secure the territorial integrity of the Nigerian nation.

He cautioned against tribalism and religious divisiveness in the Army, urging them to at all times remain loyal to the President, Muhammadu Buhari, and the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai.

He prayed God to console widows whose husbands died in the course of fighting for the country.
