A daring daylight robbery occurred Sunday morning in Umuahia, Abia State, leaving two point of sale (PoS) operators injured and hospitalized, ABN TV reports.
At approximately 10:15 a.m., three armed men on a tricycle (keke) stormed a POS outlet opposite FirstBank on Uyo Street by Uzuakoli Road.
They robbed the operators, shooting one in the back and buttocks.
The assailants then proceeded to Ikot Ekpene Junction, near the Federal Medical Center (FMC) Umuahia, where they shot another PoS operator during a struggle over the machine.
The two injured PoS operators are currently receiving treatment at FMC Umuahia, although their names have not been disclosed.
Eyewitnesses praised the swift intervention of the police, who responded to the gunfire and repelled the robbers, preventing further damage.
The armed men escaped with the tricycle and an undisclosed amount of money.
ABN TV reports that the incident has been confirmed by police command in the state, while investigation is underway.
