Appeal Court Affirms Elections Of Senators Ndume, Lawan

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has affirmed the elections of Senators Ali Ndume and Kaka Lawan, both of the All Progressives Congress (APC), representing Borno South and Borno Central Senatorial Districts, respectively.

A three-member court panel, led by Justice Biobele Georgewill, dismissed two appeals challenging senators’ elections for lacking merit.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Ndume and Lawan as the winners of the National Assembly elections in their respective senatorial districts.

However, Muhammed Kumalia and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) challenged Lawan’s election, while Kudla Satumari and the PDP filed a petition against Ndume at the Borno State National and State’s Election Petition Tribunal.

The appellants had challenged the outcome of the elections at the Borno State National and State’s Election Petition Tribunal, but their petitions were dismissed.

Dissatisfied with the tribunal’s verdicts, the appellants appealed to the Court of Appeal.

In its judgments, the Court of Appeal upheld the submissions of the senior lawyers representing the senators and INEC and dismissed the appeals for lacking merit.

The court affirmed the elections of Ndume and Lawan as the duly elected senators for Borno South and Borno Central Senatorial Districts, respectively.
