Nigeria’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has zoned its 2023 Presidential ticket to the South, ABN TV has learned.
This was revealed by the Governor of Kaduna state, Nasir El-Rufai while addressing journalists at the statehouse shortly after a meeting between President Buhari and APC governors on Tuesday.
Elrufai disclosed that the Governors and the President agreed on a Zoning formula for all the six geopolitical zones ahead of the highly anticipated 2023 elections.
He said: “We have agreed on a zoning formula for all the six geo-political zones. Essentially, northern zone will have the positions the South have had in the last eight years, and vice versa. It is a very simple, equitable, and fair formula.”
“We will now go back and consult at the zonal levels and look at the positions that are available and the process of the convention preparation will be started in earnest. So, by the grace of God, on the 26th of March, we would have done our national convention.”
He also said that the Party’s convention scheduled for February 26th was moved to March 26th due to disagreements on certain issues.
With this development, Candidates from the south who have expressed interest in clinching the Party’s 2023 presidential ticket like Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and a couple of others will intensify and expand their consultations.
