Ahead of the 2027 presidential election, leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from the North Central have officially endorsed President Bola Tinubu for re-election.
This decision was made during a meeting held in Abuja on Wednesday night, where five APC governors from the zone, alongside other key party leaders, came together to show their support for the president’s second-term bid.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, moved the motion for President Tinubu’s endorsement, highlighting his achievements under the APC-led government. Akume stated:
“We, members of the APC North Central geopolitical zone at this meeting held on the 21st of May, 2025, in Abuja… have resolved as follows: To endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR to run for another tenure of four years to continue with his good works; that the North Central APC will continue to support all people-orientated programmes and projects of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
Nasarawa State Governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, further solidified this endorsement, emphasizing the president’s leadership qualities and the significant impact of his reforms across the North Central zone.
He said, “Having critically examined the current trajectory of national governance… we wholeheartedly endorse President Tinubu to contest for a second term in office as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria come 2027… We acknowledge these efforts as a clear demonstration of the president’s sincere commitment to equity and national development.”
Governor Sule also thanked President Tinubu for the infrastructure projects, road rehabilitation, educational upgrades, rural electrification, and agricultural initiatives transforming the region.
The APC leadership in North Central also expressed their unwavering support for the party’s unity and the inclusive approach in appointing regional leaders to key positions.
“We commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his inclusive and merit-based approach in appointing sons and daughters of the North Central region into key leadership positions across federal government agencies and parastatals.”
The communique, signed by Senator George Akume and Governors Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq (Kwara), Abdullahi Sule (Nasarawa), Hyacinth Alia (Benue), Mohammed Umar Bago (Niger), and Ahmed Usman Ododo (Kogi), emphasized their commitment to strengthening grassroots structures and prioritizing security, job creation, and economic revitalization.
During the meeting, Kwara State Governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, recalled a request made on May 24, 2024, for the creation of the North Central Development Commission to coordinate the region’s development. He pointed out that the commission has now been established, with North Central leaders appointed to lead it. He praised this as a “big win” for the region.
Abdulrazaq also commended the president for the national forest guards initiative, which aims to improve national security, and called for continued support for President Tinubu beyond 2027 for the sake of national cohesion and political stability.
The meeting also saw remarks from the National Chairman of APC, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, who celebrated the inclusiveness within the party, highlighting that National Working Committee (NWC) members and state chairmen of the APC had been appointed chairmen of boards.
The gathering included notable figures such as Deputy Senate Leader Senator Oyelola Yisa Ashiru, Attorney General of the Federation Lateef Fagbemi, Information Minister Mohammed Idris, and Minister of Water Resources Prof. Joseph Utsev, among others.
In attendance were also former governors such as Yahaya Bello (Kogi), Tanko Almakura (Nasarawa), and Abubakar Sani Bello (Niger), former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Ahmed Wase, and various other National Assembly members and critical stakeholders from the region.
The endorsement comes as part of a broader effort to ensure the continuation of the APC-led government and build on the progress seen under President Tinubu’s leadership.
