Anthony Elanga is on the verge of becoming Newcastle United’s first major signing of the summer, with reports indicating the club has agreed to a £55 million ($75 million) deal with Nottingham Forest.
According to The Athletic, BBC, and Sky Sports, the Swedish international is expected to complete his move to St. James’ Park in the coming days.
Elanga played a pivotal role in Nottingham Forest’s impressive seventh-place finish in the Premier League last season, contributing six goals and 11 assists. Forest signed the winger from Manchester United for just £15 million two years ago, making this transfer a significant profit for the club.
Newcastle, preparing for a return to the UEFA Champions League, has so far faced challenges in the transfer market. Despite financial backing from Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund, the club has been constrained by the Premier League’s financial sustainability regulations.
The signing of Elanga marks a key step in strengthening the squad ahead of a demanding 2025–26 campaign.
