Anambra Guber: Thank You For Your Support, Sen. Ekwunife Appreciates Senate

The Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Uche Ekwunife has sent a special message of appreciation to the leadership and members of the 9th Senate for the overwhelming support they gave her in the just concluded governorship primary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Ekwunife, through a letter read by the President of Senate, Senator Ahmed Lawan, PhD, CON at the Senate plenary on Wednesday, June 30, 2021, thanked her colleagues for their show of love, solidarity and support.

“I am indeed overwhelmed by the outpour of solidarity and encouragement by the leadership of the Senate and every member of this hallowed chamber.”

“Together with the members of my campaign team, we worked extremely hard to clinch the ticket of our great party during the keenly contested party primary last weekend.”

“Even though we did not achieve our set goal, the financial and moral support we received from my colleagues in this chamber enabled us to make a bold statement in the governorship contest.”

Continuing, the ranking lawmaker said: “the impact we made in the election shows that we are indeed very close to creating a society where women can seek to occupy any office in Nigeria without facing any form of gender discrimination.”

“I make bold to say that I may not have won the nomination, but it is a matter of time. We shall get there by God’s grace” a statement from the lawmaker’s SA Media, Kingsley Ubani says.

Senator Ekwunife restated her commitment to the vision of the 9th Senate and indeed, the overall democratic development of Nigeria. She said that irrespective of political or party affiliation her resolve to engage in activities that deepen the nation’s democracy remains total.

Meanwhile, accolades have continue to trail her participation at the recently concluded primary election of the PDP in Anambra ahead of the November 6, 2021 governorship election.

The lawmaker has been commended for her doggedness and resilience in confronting the male-dominated political contest where she came third.

In congratulatory message to the Senator, a gender right advocate, Oby Stephanie Dike Amaechi said Sen. Ekwunife is a specimen of courage who has not allow her natural formation as a woman to deter her from seeking a better society for her people through political office.

The CEO Pacific International Schools Ltd noted that Sen. Ekwunife is closer to her dream of shattering the class ceiling to become the first female governor in the country.

Oby Stephanie Dike Amaechi a member Women4Women expressed displeasure with the monetization of the PDP ticket during the primary election, adding that it is injurious to the country’s democracy.
