Anambra 2021: Court Bars Valentine Ozigbo From Parading Himself As PDP Candidate

Ahead of the November 6 Anambra Governorship election, an Anambra State High Court sitting in Awka on Tuesday barred Valentine Ozigbo from parading himself as candidate of the party.

The court also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC not to recognise Ozigbo as PDP candidate in the election pending the determination of the suit currently before it.

Furthermore, it also barred the second defendant, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP from according any privilege or recognition to Valentine Ozigbo as its candidate.

The plaintiff, a factional candidate of the party, Sen. Ugochukwu Uba had approached the court, urging it to recognise him as candidates of the PDP.

The court adjourned the case for hearing till July 12, 2021.

Valentine Ozigbo, a former CEO of Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc (Transcorp) had polled 62 out of 218 votes to beat 13 other aspirants who were on the ballot in the June 26 primary election of the PDP.

Some aspirants had withdrawn from the primary out of protest because of the new list of delegates that was released by the National Working Committee of the party.

A parallel primary that held elsewhere in Awka produced Ugochukwu Uba as its own candidate.
