The Director-General of the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON), Olalekan Fadolapo, has suspended its Director and Deputy Director of Regulations following their acceptance of the ‘All Eyes on Judiciary’ billboard advertisement in Abuja.
Fadolapo announced in a statement on Tuesday.
He said the pair were suspended for failing to exercise due diligence by accepting an advertisement “blackmailing the Nigerian Judiciary and the Honourable Justices of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.”
He went on to say that the advertisement could cause public discontent and breach of public peace.
“Consequently, the Director and Deputy Director, Regulations, have also been suspended. The suspension is to enable an unprejudiced investigation of the issue,” he said.
The said Advert, “ALL Eyes on the Judiciary”, is coming amid anxiety as Nigerians await the judgment of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.
Remember that after the Independent National Electoral Commission declared President Bola Ahmed Tinubu the winner of the 2023 presidential election, the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, and the Labour Party, Peter Obi, contested the result.
