Lagos State Government, on Thursday, announced the arrest of Afobaje Maiyegun, boasted in a Facebook post that he beat up his wife.
Gboyega Akosile, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, gave the update on Twitter.
He confirmed that the Lagos Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team (DSVRT) apprehended the man.
In a viral Facebook post, Afobaje Maiyegun boasted that he beat up his wife.
He posted a photo of her bloody face and declared he was “waiting for the police” to come and arrest him.
Akosile said the DSVRT reached out to ACP Gbolahan Odugbemi, Police Commander in Area J, who took immediate action.
“Preliminary investigation conducted revealed that this is not the first time the said Mr Maiyegun would perpetrate such a dastardly act.
“A partner NGO, @HerfessionsApp, was on ground to assist with the investigation. The case is set to be charged to court on Friday, 15th May 2020”, he tweeted.
Akosile reiterated that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had declared zero tolerance to sexual and gender Based violence in Lagos.
The CPS warned that perpetrators will face the full weight of the law.
