Afghans Mustn’t Suffer Religious, Ethnic Violence, Say Regional Security Officials

Peaceful civilians in Afghanistan must not suffer from violence because of their religion or ethnicity, regional security officials said in a statement following consultations.

“Respect for and the protection of the interests of other ethnicities, and of civil rights and freedoms would help improve the situation in Afghanistan and enhance the security of countries in the region,” the statement says.

The heads of the delegations to the consultations in Dushanbe, Tajikistan’s capital, raised concerns about the current developments in Afghanistan and hoped for an improvement to the internal political and socioeconomic situation in the country.
