AFCON: Super Eagles’ Round of 16 Opponents To Be Confirmed Today

Nigeria’s next opponent at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations will be confirmed today (Tuesday).

The Super Eagles are through to the Round of 16 as Group A runners-up.

According to CAF’s official schedule, this means Jose Peseiro’s men will play the team that finishes second in Group C.

The final positions in Group C will be determined later today.

Senegal currently leads the way in that group with six points from two matches.

However, their last group match against Guinea has significant implications.

A win for Guinea who are second with four points, would propel them to the top of the group. If this happens, Senegal would drop to second place, setting up a showdown with Nigeria in the knockout stage.

However, a draw or a Senegal win would see the Teranga Lions maintain their position at the summit, ensuring Guinea finish second and become Nigeria’s last-16 adversary.

Cameroon, who have just one point from two games, must defeat Gambia and hope for favourable results elsewhere.

A significant win for Cameroon, combined with a massive win for Senegal over Guinea, could see the Indomitable Lions leapfrog the Guineans into second place and become the Super Eagles’ opponents.
