Wilfred Ndidi is thrilled with the Super Eagles progress into Round of 16 at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The three-time champions booked their passage into the knockout round of the competition after a hard-fought 1-0 victory against the Djurtus of Guinea-Bissau on Monday.
The Super Eagles will confront eternal rivals, the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in the Round of 16.
Ndidi was replaced in Nigeria’s squad for AFCON 2023 by Alhassan Yusuf after sustaining an injury while in action for Sky Bet Championship club Leicester City.
The midfielder was disappointed not to be with the squad, but has backed his teammates to go all the way in Cote d’Ivoire.
“It was really bad for me not to be there but I’m so happy for the team because even from last year, this is what we have been planning to go for the AFCON,” Ndidi told Sky Sports.
” Just try as much as possible to get to the final. We planned to win games which gets you to the next stage.”
Nigeria and Cameroon will clash at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium, Abidjan on Saturday.
