Interim National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), David Mark, has raised concerns over alleged plans by the current administration to use the judiciary to derail the party’s growing momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking in Abuja during a visit by the ADC’s National Legal Support Group, led by Abdullahi Abdurrahman, the former Senate President warned that the party may face politically motivated legal obstacles.
Abdurrahman announced that over 310 lawyers have volunteered to defend the ADC in all ongoing and future legal matters nationwide. He stated that the team is fully mobilized, with representation in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
“Our team is ready to defend the party against any legal threats,” he said, noting that the legal group includes notable figures such as ADC Legal Adviser Peter Oyewole, former Attorney-General Abubakar Malami (SAN), and former Edo State Governor Professor Oserheimen Osunbor.
He also expressed strong confidence in the current party leadership and praised Senator Mark’s integrity and experience, urging him to guide the ADC to national relevance.
Abdurrahman called on the party’s legal adviser to ensure timely provision of documents and updates to keep the team efficient.
In response, Oyewole assured the legal group that all protocols related to the recent coalition forming the new ADC were followed strictly. “There is no cause for alarm,” he stated.
However, Senator Mark maintained that the party must remain vigilant. “The ADC is emerging as a formidable force for 2027, and there may be attempts to frustrate our progress through the courts,” he warned.
He urged Nigerians to rally behind the ADC as a patriotic and credible alternative and commended the legal team for their dedication.
With increasing grassroots support and a robust legal structure, the ADC says it is fully prepared to defend its mandate and compete strongly in the 2027 elections.
