Accidents: Police Vow To Reinforce Traffic Regulations In Ekiti

The Police Command in Ekiti on Thursday pledged to reinforce traffic regulations in a bid to stem incessant road accidents in the state.

This is contained in a statement by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Sunday Abutu, in Ado-Ekiti.

Abutu said the incessant road accidents especially within Ado-Ekiti, were a source of concern to the force.

He said the command had observed in recent times that road accidents had become a normal and recurring incident in the state.

“In fact, road traffic crash resulting to loss of lives or permanent disability is almost a daily occurrence.

“In view of this, the command shall emplace tougher control measures to check improper and reckless driving,” he said.

Abutu said that data analysis obtained by the command showed that major causes of road accidents were speed violations, wrongful overtaking, light or sign violations, and dangerous driving.

Others were; tyres bursting, bad vehicle or motor maintenance culture, lack of proper driving education, driving under the influence, overloading and fatigue.

Abutu said the command would not relent and would continue to prioritize the safety of lives and property of the people of the state.

“Citizens are kindly advised to be acquainted with the traffic rules and strictly abide by them to avoid any untoward incident.

“Members of the public, especially motorists and motorcycle riders are, therefore, enjoined to avoid reckless driving, over speeding, driving against traffic and other traffic offences to avoid arrest and prosecution,” he said.
