Academy Moves To Equip Journalists To Compete With Counterparts Globally

In an effort to keep journalists and media workers abreast new trends in the industry across the globe, Folio Media Creative Academy is currently organising a 3-day Critical Media Practice Workshop in Onicha-Ugbo, Delta State.

The workshop with the theme, “The Convergence Journalism“ is in collaboration with African Centre for Public Policy, Asaba Delta state is aimed at creating a platform for journalists to learn new skills in line with the dynamic nature of the media industry to be able to compete with their contemporaries in other parts of the world.

The workshop which commenced on Monday, March 22, 2021, will end on Wednesday, March 24, 2021.

It has as the major sponsor Dangote Group as well as The Daily Times and Midwestern Oil & Gas Ltd.

Speaking with ABN TV on Monday, the General Manager Daily Times, Pius Alabi said, “We have put this programme together to make sure we help them develop personal skills that will help them stand anywhere in the world. This programme is being sponsored by Dangote Group and Midwest Oil and Gas”.

He further noted that the workshop will continue in other parts of the country’s geopolitical zones.

Participants are nominated by the sponsors and the umbrella body of journalists, NUJ in the region where the training is taking place.

One of the facilitators and a Professor of Business Administration, Dr. Charles Anosike, said there is need for journalists to upgrade their skills of storytelling as well as understanding that they are part of the society they are reporting about.

These he said will help them perform better in their journalistic assignments.
