Abide By Rules Of Hunting – Osun Police Cautions Hunters Over Use of Firearms

Commissioner of Police, Osun Command, Mohammed Umar Abba has cautioned hunters and members of the general public against the use of firearms.

Abba, while warning that such an unwholesome act of negligence would not be treated with levity, added that the Command was compelled to act due to the need to abide by the rules of hunting expedition.

The Osun Police boss issued this warning in a statement signed by Opalola Yemisi, the Command’s spokesperson.

Umar also revealed that the warning became imperative due to the incessant cases of accidental discharge or misfiring of guns which on several occasions have led to deaths and injuries.

According to the statement, “The Osun State Police Command is constrained to caution/sensitize members of the public, especially hunters on the use of gun for hunting as the Command is confronted with incessant cases of accidental discharge or misfiring of gun which on several occasions has led to the death of human beings and various degree of injuries sustained.

“The Police Command is using this medium to caution hunters on the need to abide by the rule(s) of hunting expeditions.”

The Command also advised hunters to avoid putting loaded guns in their homes as children or any other person could be tempted to play with it or test their level of inquisitiveness.

“They should equally desist from loading their gun(s) in inhabited areas, in order to reduce the hazards of accidental discharge which is very dangerous to human lives.”
