The State President of the Cooperative Motor Union, Abia State, Mr Chukwuma Azode, has declared the unanimous support of all motor unions and transport operators in the state for Governor Alex Otti’s re-election bid in 2027.
Azode made the declaration in Aba on Thursday during a Two-Million Man March organized by various transport unions in solidarity with Governor Otti’s road infrastructure projects across the state.
Speaking at the rally, Azode said the governor’s achievements in under two years make him the clear choice for continued leadership in Abia.
“From what we are seeing, I don’t think any sensible person should involve himself in anything concerning elections, because from what we are seeing, His Excellency is supposed to enjoy his 8 years.
“So, for now, any opposition that is coming out is taking a risk, is taking a very big risk, because we, Abians, are in support of His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti, for now, and no other person. And all the motor unions in Abia State are also endorsing His Excellency for 2027. “That’s the part of our gathering here today.”
Azode emphasized that the march was not politically motivated but driven by genuine admiration for the governor’s performance: “This gathering, this Million March, is not political. It’s non-political, and I believe that there are a lot of people who love His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti, who are here, and most of them are from different political backgrounds. So, what we are doing is non-political, but they are here as lovers of Dr. Alex Otti based on his good works in Abia State.
“We are here to show solidarity with His Excellency Dr. Alex Otti to celebrate all his good works in Abia State. Within two years in office, he has shown a great capacity. So, that is the reason why we are gathering here to celebrate him. We have a lot of people residing in Aba, and Aba, to start with, is a place that His Excellency has promised that he’s going to develop more so that we will now get more investors coming in to invest.”
Also speaking, Comrade Victor Azubuike, Chairman of the Abia State Tricycle Operators Union, said the rally was a show of appreciation for the improved transportation conditions in the state, especially in Aba.
“Aba transporters are the most beneficiaries of what is happening under the present administration,” he noted, while thanking Governor Otti “for being a good leader”.
In a separate interview, Dr. Obioma Nwaogbe, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transportation, said the transport sector has felt the direct impact of Governor Otti’s infrastructure development.
“Like you can see, he has been constructing a lot of roads in the state, both urban and rural road infrastructural development. All those roads that are being constructed are for transportation use. The people who use the road most are the transporters, and these roads make it so seamless for all the transport operators and the commuters themselves.”
He added that Aba was chosen for the march because of its strategic importance: “Aba is the economic hub of the eastern zone, and the majority of the work done is more in Aba, as the governor wants to attract more investors.”
The Two-Million Man March began at Osisioma Junction and moved through Aba-Owerri Road to Asa Road, drawing large crowds of jubilant residents who flooded the streets in support of Governor Otti and his administration’s achievements.
