The Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers has unanimously endorsed Governor Alex Otti for a second term in office ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Chairman of the Council, Eze Dr. Linus Nto Mbah, disclosed this to journalists after a closed-door meeting between a delegation of traditional rulers and the Governor at Nvosi, Isialangwa South Local Government Area.
Eze Mbah said Governor Otti has performed creditably across key sectors of the state’s economy within less than three years in office, adding that his administration has redefined governance in Abia.
He noted that previous governors in the state completed two terms regardless of performance, insisting that Governor Otti, who he described as having done exceptionally well, deserves the same opportunity.
“We want to encourage him. Come 2027, all traditional rulers are behind him. Other governors did eight years each, whether they did well or not. Why should his own be different?” he said.
The monarch assured that traditional rulers across the state would give the Governor full support to ensure his re-election.
“Abia Traditional Rulers Council says no, it will never happen. We will support him 100 percent and ensure that Dr. Alex Otti is re-elected in 2027,” Eze Mbah stated.
He explained that the visit was also to appreciate the Governor for his developmental strides, particularly in infrastructure, describing ongoing projects across the state as laudable.
“You can see roads everywhere. We have come to say, ‘Governor, thank you. Keep it up.’ Abia traditional rulers are very happy and grateful,” he added.
Eze Mbah further commended Governor Otti for prioritising security of lives and property, noting that the traditional institution is proud of his achievements.
Other traditional rulers present at the meeting included the 1st Deputy Chairman of the Council, HRM Eze Nelson Nmerengwa; the 2nd Deputy Chairman, HRM Eze Franklyn Nwosu; and the 3rd Deputy Chairman, HRM Eze Uwakwe Ukaegbu, among others.
The endorsement signals growing support for Governor Otti as political alignments ahead of the 2027 elections begin to take shape.
