Abia Records 100% Rise In Public School Enrollment — Govt Attributes Success To Otti’s Education Reforms

The Abia State Government has announced a remarkable 100 percent increase in enrollment into public schools across the state, a development it attributes to the far-reaching education reforms implemented by Governor Alex Otti’s administration.

Disclosing this while briefing journalists on the outcome of this week’s Executive Council meeting, the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, said the surge in student enrollment reflects the public’s renewed confidence in the state’s education system.

According to him, the reforms include the introduction of free education at the primary and junior secondary school levels, regular payment of teachers’ salaries, and financial incentives for teachers serving in rural areas. He further highlighted the increase in teachers’ retirement age from 60 to 65 years, consistent training and retraining programs, and improvements in the learning environment.

Prince Kanu added that the government is closely monitoring teacher deployment, particularly in rural areas, to address absenteeism and ensure teachers report to duty as assigned.
