Hon. Chris Nkwonta, a member of the House of Representatives representing Ukwa East/West in Abia State, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The announcement was made by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas during plenary on Wednesday in Abuja.
In reaction to the defection, Deputy Minority Leader Aliyu Madaki cited a section of the constitution and called for Nkwonta’s seat to be declared vacant.

In response, the Speaker informed Madaki that he is aware of a faction within the PDP.
