The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has urged the Abia State Government under Governor Alex Otti to embrace transparency, accountability, and genuine governance instead of resorting to propaganda and media theatrics.
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Levinus Nwabughiogu, on October 7, 2025, Kalu said his earlier comment on Abia’s governance, which attracted a sharp response from Otti’s media aide, Ferdinand Ekeoma, was not an attack but a call for better performance.
Kalu, who represents Bende Federal Constituency, had declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would take over Abia in 2027 due to the ruling Labour Party’s poor delivery despite improved finances.
He maintained that Abians deserve answers on why the state remains underdeveloped despite massive inflows.
“Rather than addressing the concerns raised, the Otti administration chose to play to the gallery with unnecessary theatrics,” Kalu’s office stated.
According to him, good governance should be measured by tangible progress, not public relations campaigns. He emphasized that opposition voices have a constitutional duty to hold the government accountable for the welfare of the people.
Kalu also reaffirmed APC’s readiness to provide an alternative government rooted in transparency and integrity, noting that the people of Abia are already disillusioned with “the propaganda of progress.”
