The Abia State Ministry of Works has disclosed a comprehensive list of ongoing, completed, and special road projects executed across the state.

According to a detailed report obtained by ABN TV, these projects aim to address infrastructure gaps and improve road connectivity in urban and rural areas.

Completed Road Repair and Maintenance Projects

The Ministry revealed over 140 road repair and maintenance projects completed through direct labor operations. Key achievements include:

  • Umuahia Roads: Repair and maintenance works were completed on notable roads such as Aba Road, Ikot-Ekpene Road (Phase 1), Enugu Road, and Umuahia-Uzuakoli Road. Other projects included internal road repairs at the Commissioners Quarters, World Bank Housing Estate, and the Ehimiri Housing Estate.
  • Aba Roads: Pivotal roads such as Jubilee Road, Queen’s Street, and Bata Road underwent asphalt overlay and maintenance. Additionally, emergency repairs and drainage desilting were conducted along Osusu Road, Ngwa Road, and Park Road, enhancing urban mobility.
  • Rural Areas: Repairs were carried out on roads like Amuvi-Amakohia Road in Arochukwu LGA, Ntigha-Mbawsi Road, and Leru-Ngodo Road in Umunneochi LGA.

Ongoing Road Projects

The Ministry outlined more than 35 ongoing road rehabilitation and maintenance initiatives, including:

  • The Rehabilitation of Ndoki Road in Aba and the reconstruction of Rufus Obi Road in Isuikwuato LGA.
  • Expansion and maintenance projects such as the IBB-Ahiaeke Road in Umuahia and the dualization of Umuikaa Junction to Umuene.
  • Rural connectivity improvements like the Uburu-Ihechiowa Road in Arochukwu LGA and repairs on failed portions of Umuahia-Bende Road up to the Bende LGA headquarters.

Construction and Reconstruction Operations

The Ministry completed 17 major construction and reconstruction projects, including:

  • Cemetery Market Road (Phase 1) and Shalom Road in Aba, both equipped with streetlights.
  • Roads critical to Aba’s business environment, such as Emelogu Street, Old Express Road, and Udeagbala Road, have been reconstructed.
  • In Umuahia, the Ossah Road and Factory Road were among completed projects.

Ongoing construction projects include strategic arteries such as the Port Harcourt Road in Aba, Ohanku Road, and the Arochukwu-Ohafia Road.

Special Projects

Highlighting federal collaborations, the Ministry noted significant progress on the Port Harcourt-Aba section of the Port Harcourt-Enugu Expressway and the ongoing design of the Aba-Owerri Road.
