The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Okamu Ward, Ohafia L.G.A of Abia State, Hon. Igwe Akuma Akwu has been declared winner of the counselorship position in Saturday’s local government elections in the state.
He was among the opposition candidates that won in the election in which the governing Labour Party lost its grip on the local government, with the relatively unknown Zenith Labour Party winning 15 out of the 17 Chairmanship positions in the local government structure of Abia.
Addressing his supporters at the ward headquarters in Okon Aku Ohafia where the result was announced by ABSIEC supervisor, Mr. Kalu Ifegwu Uka, Hon. Akwu expressed gratitude to the people of the ward for their support and belief in him, which has made his Divine Mandate mantra a reality.
Arising from the crisis that his the national leadership of the Labour Party, it was later factionalised in Abia, with the preferred candidates of the governor not getting the support of Julius Abure-led NEC to contest in the election.
Zenith Labour Party became the beautiful bride for loyalists of the governor to contest the election.
