Senator representing Abia North, Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu has finally spoken up on the upcoming local government election in Abia State.
In a chat with ABN TV on Saturday, Kalu who is Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate said APC will take part in the election, insisting that it must be free and fair.
The former governor also said his party, the APC would want to see all the original election materials to guarantee that the process will not be compromised.
He said the materials for the election must be authenticated at the local government headquarters and in the field as well to foster trust in the process.
“We are asking for a free, fair, and credible election. We urge all the security agencies to be ready for the election and all eyes to be on the election” he added.
The federal lawmaker also expressed delight that a large number of defectors from other political parties are identifying with the APC.
While insisting that APC is popular in Abia, Sen. Kalu emphasized that under a free and fair electoral contest, the APC will have a clean sweep in Abia North and other parts of the state.
He expressed the readiness of APC to slug it out with the ruling PDP in the state.

According to Sen. Kalu, the APC will field popular and credible candidates across the local governments to enhance its chances of victory.
He said time has passed when results of elections are manufactured, calling on the state Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu to advise Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) to allow the will of people of the state to prevail.
While appealing to the law enforcement agencies to be vigilant, the APC chieftain said his party will not tolerate unlawful acts during the election.
